Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
Colorado’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program is designed to enable families to become self-sufficient and to promote personal responsibility. Assistance and services will vary, as appropriate to individual situations, based on the assessed needs of each family.
TANF provides assistance to needy families so children may be cared for in their homes or in the homes of relatives; reducing dependency of needy parents by promoting job preparation, work, and marriage; preventing out-of-wedlock pregnancies, and encouraging the formation and maintenance of two-parent families.
Eligibility for TANF
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be either pregnant or responsible for a child under 19 years of age. Also the applicant must be an US national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident, with low or very low income, and be under-employed (working for very low wages), unemployed or about to become unemployed.
Eligibility for any TANF benefit is subject to the availability of funds.
